Dr. Claybon Lea, Jr. is the pastor of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield and Suisun City, CA. He has been blessed with the honor of being called to the church in which he was baptized, licensed and ordained to preach. He is only the second pastor in the church’s history, having succeeded his late father and church organizer, Rev. Claybon Lea, Sr.

Under Dr. Lea’s leadership, Mt. Calvary has experienced phenomenal holistic growth.  Dr. Lea, in 2004, led Mt. Calvary in a move to the city of Fairfield, to occupy a 48,000 sq. ft. building. In 2005 the church was listed in Outreach Magazine as one of the 100 fastest growing churches in America.  Consequently, the ministries of the church have multiplied to meet the growing needs of the ministry. 

Dr. Lea has been blessed with both the burning and the learning. He is a distinguished graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, with a B. A. Degree in Religion. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He also earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.

In 2000, Dr. Lea was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr., Board of Preachers at Morehouse College. In August of 2004, Dr. Lea was selected to attend The University of Oxford in England as a participant in the first Oxford Round Table discussion on Religion, Education and Government. His preaching and teaching gifts have afforded him the opportunity to minister in West Africa, Germany, the Bahamas, Bermuda and throughout the United States. His leadership is blessing the body of Christ outside of Mt. Calvary as he is the immediate past Moderator of the Progressive District Association of the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area, President of the California State Baptist Convention (youngest in the convention’s history), and a leader of significant Boards of Directors.  He is a contributing author to the best selling book, Sound the Trumpet Again, and is the author of Lessons From A Dying Savior.

Dr. Lea and his wife, Janel W. Lea, are the proud parents of four beautiful children, two boys and two girls.
